Thinking of family things to do in Spokane can be an extra chore, when you already have so much to do as busy parents! That’s why I’ve created this list of five kid-friendly Spokane family activities. I hope it inspires you to make meaningful memories with your little ones!
Just North of Spokane in Mead, WA, Green Bluff Growers is an agricultural community of around 30 independently operated farms, perfect for Spokane family activities. Your kids (and you) can experience the joy of a bountiful harvest through their seasonal U-pick events, live music, festivals, etc., and you’ll go home with fresh fruits, vegetables or flowers. If you’re looking for winter holiday Spokane family attractions, several farms offer U-Cut for holiday trees, and winter experiences such as sleigh rides! Whenever you visit, just make sure to check the grower directory for each farm’s hours of operation.
If you’re looking for family things to do in Spokane, the classic park experience is always an option! Although, Riverfront Park is no ordinary park. It is a beautiful, multi-attraction destination bordering Spokane River. Between outdoor sculptures, ice skating, gondola rides over Spokane Falls, a basketball court, and a skate park, the Spokane family attractions are aplenty. For more kid-centric Spokane family activities, the park also offers a carousel, a giant wagon slide, a playground with fossil digging, and an accessible playscape.
If you and your family are fans of flowers, luckily Spokane is home to many gorgeous garden parks. Manito Park consists of five distinct garden areas: the Nishinomiya Tsutakawa Japanese Garden, Duncan Garden, Rose Hill, Lilac Garden and Ferris Perennial Garden. Late spring through early summer is the perfect time to visit, as this is when most flowers are in bloom!
The Nishinomiya Tsutakawa Japanese Garden is a great place to expose your kids to some culture. Named to honor Spokane’s sister city Nishinomiya, the garden features traditional Japanese landscape architecture, including a waterfall and koi pond.
If your kids like looking for fairies, there’s no better place to search than Duncan Garden. Frolic in the flowers or have a magical photoshoot in this European Renaissance-style garden, perfectly manicured with brightly colored flowers.
Rose Hill, Manito Park’s rose garden, is filled with over 150 varieties of roses. Fans of fairy tales will love its Alice-in-Wonderland-esque mystique.
For more flower-ful Spokane family activities, the Lilac Garden boasts over 100 named cultivars from 23 distinct species, one of many beautiful Spokane family attractions.
Finally, the Joel E. Farris Perennial Garden offers more beautiful Spokane activities for families. With over 300 plant species in bloom from early spring to late autumn, this garden is a great place to witness the diverse local pollinators that call Spokane home.
When looking for Spokane family activities, spending time with animals is a great option. At Blue Zoo, their slogan is More than an Aquarium, More than a Zoo, and it does not disappoint. When looking for Spokane things to do, family-friendly spots can hardly compete with Blue Zoo. They seamlessly blend education and entertainment with such Spokane family attractions as live pirate and mermaid shows, stingray and shark dive shows, and reptile shows. Sensory-seeking kids will especially love the hands-on zones where they can touch and feed stingrays, birds and reptiles!
If furry land dwellers better suit your kids’ fancy, look no further than Cat Tails Wildlife Center. Not only do they focus on educational Spokane activities for families, but they also rescue and rehabilitate wild animals. As their name implies, Cat Tails is a forever home to felines of all sizes, from lynxes to pumas to tigers, but they also care for canines, bears, and smaller mammals like racoons. You kids can admire, learn about, and even feed some of the animals who call Cat Tails home!
A great way to form a sense of connection in your kids with the land they call home is by taking them on nature walks, perfect Spokane activities for families. At the James T. Slavin Conservation Area, not only can your family immerse themselves in the native forests, wetlands and meadows, but they can also witness wild elks and waterfowl migration. With 628 acres, the James T. Slavin Conservation Area offers seven distinct and connected trails of varying lengths that can be hiked in conjunction for a new experience every visit. The loop off the trail head is 1.34 miles, and all trails together total 6.21 miles, so it’s a great spot for beginner to intermediate hikers. For more family things to do in Spokane, why not enjoy the local waters? Inside Riverside State Park, Bowl & Pitcher Loop Trail is a beautiful 2.1-mile hike that boasts stunning views of Spokane River. It’s also a beautiful location for family photos in the winter! If you’re looking for outdoor Spokane family activities that you can do any season, these nature walks are a great option – just make sure you’re dressed appropriately!
