As a chiropractor patient who’s life was transformed by regular early childhood adjustments, I can attest to the many benefits of chiropractic care. Getting your baby adjusted by a skilled chiropractor in Spokane can set their little body up for the best functionality possible!
Today’s blog features Dr. Kristina Davis, Chiropractor and Owner of North Spokane Chiropractic. I am so excited to be sharing Kristina’s work with you, as Kristina has been my go-to chiropractor for over 5 years and I believe she is one of the best Chiropractors in Spokane, WA.
As a fifth generation chiropractor (that’s right, FIFTH!), Kristina D.C. and her family has served the Greater Spokane Area for over 30 years. She is passionate about serving those in all stages of life and skilled at working with infants and children. She is also a Webster Technique Certified Chiropractor in Spokane, and supports women throughout their pregnancy and birth.
There are SO many benefits to getting a chiropractic adjustment. The purpose of an adjustment is to restore proper motion in the spine so that the nervous system can function better. Every single movement (or lack thereof) in the spine affects the nervous system. It is a very intricate system.
Dysfunction in the spine is like “static on the phone line”. The quality of the messages sent from the brain to the body isn’t optimal. A chiropractic adjustment restores the motion, improves the nerve function, and changes how the body adapts to inside and outside stimuli. Who wouldn’t want to be functioning optimally?!
Adjustments not only help with pain, they can help with headaches, digestion, bowel movements, ringing in the ears, ear infections, allergies, sickness, menstrual cramps, mood, and pelvic and round ligament pain during pregnancy! They may also help with prenatal and postnatal pelvic pain, labor duration, and may help create space for the baby to optimally grow and develop. The list goes on and on!
Probably the most frequently asked question I get is “how do you adjust a baby?!” I always start off by saying there is absolutely no popping in a baby’s spine! As the child gets older and their spine develops, there may be some popping sounds but the adjustment is very well handled by a child. We call that “finding the popcorn” and the kids love it! Is an adjustment painful? Absolutely not!
Another question I get asked is about the pressure I use with an adjustment. If you close your eye and apply pressure on your eyelid until you feel your eyeball, you can imagine the pressure used on a baby’s spine. Another example is the pressure you’d use to check the ripeness of a tomato. It’s very gentle!
I’m a natural-minded Spokane Chiropractor who practices holistically and offers the same advice to my patients. Along with adjustments, I work on soft tissue, give at-home care instructions for joint mobility or muscle tightness, and offer ideas for supplements, herbs, or other nutritional advice. Health is multi-factorial and there is no one size fits all! I am Webster Certified for pregnant mamas and am currently working toward my certification in pediatrics.
I am a fifth generation Chiropractor! I absolutely LOVE Chiropractic and the miracles that I’ve seen. I remember hanging out at the office my parents worked at every day after school. I’d watch people hobble in and walk out after a good adjustment. And if you know my mom, you love her. She’d always exclaim, “Now THAT was a good adjustment!”
You can feel really connected to someone when adjusting them. It’s not just the physical body that is important. We also look at and care about the mental, emotional, and spiritual body as well. One of my favorite things about Chiropractic is connecting with people and feeling the emotion and excitement of a “good adjustment”.
Look for a holistic Chiropractor! Look for someone who is going to spend the time with you and answer any and all questions you may have. You can also look for a Chiropractor that is associated with the International Pediatric Chiropractic Association (ICPA). Their website is ICPA4kids.com.
If you are hesitant or have any questions, please reach out! The unknown can be scary and my goal is to make everyone that enters my office feel comfortable and safe. It can also help to talk to other parents who have had good experiences! I’ve been blessed to see so many amazing children in my practice. I’ve had babies come in who weren’t sleeping through the night or pooping well. Some babies were colicky or weren’t able to breastfeed. Some kids have had trouble with bed wetting, digestion, or headaches. When the brain can communicate properly with the rest of the body and when that connection has no interference, that’s when the healing starts!
